Family Day

February 18, 2019

10:00 AM – 1:00 PM and 2:00 – 4:00 PM

Free Admission to Museum/Pony School

Pony Express National Museum, 914 Penn Street, St. Joseph, MO

Whatever your age, you are sure to be captivated by the Pony Express stories and a day in the museum called “Adventure Awaits” with local interpreters during our 2019 event. Inspired by many requests from children visiting the museum, Family Day gives kids a chance to step back into the 1860s job of a Pony Express Rider. We will have several crafts/activities in the Community Room including a weaver, Joyce Bollman, and her loom. The museum is thrilled to have Deborah Reinhardt, author of children’s book “Show Me Adventure Kids: Weigh What You Say”, which is set in St. Joseph, Mo., and features the Pony Express National Museum. Deborah’s ‘Meet & Greet’ book signing session will be 10 AM – 1 PM. We are excited to have Saundra Keiffer with her spinning wheel demonstrations throughout the day. A good imagination will help at each location. Make sure to visit the “Hall of Riders” exhibit. It exemplifies the ideals of innovation, endurance, and the journey of life for 22 riders. Don’t miss this exhibit!

Admission to the Museum and the Pony School is free, sponsored through a scholarship fund provided by Mosaic Life Care. We encourage families to take a tour through the Museum and Pony School to experience local history and make memories.

“Adventure Awaits” is the kick-off theme for Pony Express 2019 Day Camp. Applications available that day. “Don’t miss your chance to tour with Junior Docents and re-enactors throughout the Museum and Community Room. Don’t miss school marms, Miss Kathy’s and Miss Kay’s, presentations in the Pony School,” Daffron says. It will touch on 1860s history and what a day at school was like for children of that time period. They will also have class time. The sign up times are 10:00, 10:30, 11:00, and 11:30 AM. Sign up is in the East Community Room. Following a break from 1:00 – 2:00 PM, sign up times continue at 2:00, 2:30, 3:00, and 3:30 PM. Class size is 40 per session.
